How to Connect Your SpeakEasy 4 Speakers to Your SpinBase and SpinSub: Two Simple Options

Connecting your Andover Audio SpeakEasy 4 Speakers to a SpinBase or SpinSub can transform your vinyl setup into an immersive audio experience. Whether you're looking for convenient volume control or optimizing your sound with subwoofer power, here's how you can set it all up using two different methods:

Option 1: SpinBase as the Main Volume Control

This option puts the SpinBase in charge of your volume control, with your SpeakEasy 4 speakers amplifying the sound. Here’s how to do it:

Step-by-Step Setup:

  1. Connect your Turntable to the SpinBase.
Plug the RCA cables from your turntable into the SpinBase’s input jacks.

  2. Connect the SpinBase to the SpeakEasy 4 via Aux input.
Using a Dual RCA to 3.5mm cable, plug the SpinBase's Line/Sub Output into the Aux input on your SpeakEasy 4 speakers. This allows the SpinBase to send audio directly to the SpeakEasy 4.

  3. Connect the SpeakEasy 4 preamp output to the SpinSub.
If you want even deeper bass, connect the preamp output from the SpeakEasy 4 to the SpinSub. This sends the low frequencies directly to the subwoofer, enhancing your overall sound.

  4. Control the sound.
Set your SpeakEasy 4 speakers to the Aux input, adjust their volume to a comfortable level, and control the main volume with the SpinBase.

Why Use This Method?

  • SpinBase becomes your primary volume control: You'll be adjusting your volume from the SpinBase instead of the SpeakEasy 4 speakers.
  • Simple cable setup: You may need to purchase a Dual RCA to 3.5mm cable of the appropriate length, but the overall setup is straightforward.

Option 2: SpeakEasy 4 as the Main Volume Control

In this setup, the SpeakEasy 4 becomes the main volume control, and your SpinBase will handle the sound balance between your speakers and the subwoofer.

Step-by-Step Setup:

  1. Connect your Turntable to the SpeakEasy 4's phono input.
Plug the RCA cables from your turntable into the phono input on the back of the SpeakEasy 4.

  2. Connect the Line Out of the SpeakEasy 4 to the Line Input of the SpinBase.
Using an RCA cable, connect the Line Out from the SpeakEasy 4 to the Line In on the SpinBase. This lets the SpinBase distribute the audio to the subwoofer.

  3. Keep the Subwoofer connected to the SpinBase.
As in the usual setup, your SpinSub remains attached to the SpinBase for bass support.

  4. Control the sound with the SpeakEasy 4.
Adjust the volume on your SpeakEasy 4, and use it to switch between inputs. The SpinBase will handle volume balancing between your speakers and subwoofer, so set the SpinBase volume to a comfortable level.

Why Use This Method?

  • Remote control convenience: The SpeakEasy 4’s remote control will adjust the volume and inputs for everything, giving you more flexibility.
  • Centralized control: All your sound sources are routed through the SpeakEasy 4, making it the hub of your system.
  • Possible long cable requirement: If your setup space is large, you might need long RCA cables to reach the SpeakEasy 4 from your turntable.
